F**k what they saying, I’m saying this!
…casually endorsing rap music as the motivational representative for your life.
Music: the hug when no one is around to reassure your heart that every little thing is gonna be alright.
Today I woke up in good spirits. I’ve been practicing, not bringing yesterday into today. So far, so good.
I found myself in need of a comforting hug right before work. My daughter had already left the house, so what else was there for me to do besides blast some good tunes. I knew exactly the king to listen to!
Music is apart of my everyday routine.
Just like I make time for work, I make time for music. At 7am sharp Alexa starts playing some form of music. Fred Hammond or Marvin Sapp are my go to’s for setting the tone for me and my daughter to head into our day feeling lifted.
I’ve been in a weird state lately where I crave silence.
My work involves teaching young children, which can make my days quite overstimulating. By the time work is over my brain’s noise capacity is maxed out. Sometimes, I sit in the living room for 15 minutes in the dark & just exist.
For the past few weeks I disabled Alexa’s feature to start our mornings with music. My days had been too busy which had me needing more moments of solitude than usual.
Last night I randomly got the urge to hear some music. Not just any music genre, but Rap music. I asked Alexa to play Nipsey Hussle and she started with the song Diamond Mind.
God’s favorite way to speak to me is through words.
Before you argue with me about God not using worldly music to speak to me, argue with your bible. I serve an omnipresent God, that is present always, in all ways.
Now back to the chat……
I never seemed to make it past Diamond Mind. Every time the song was close to ending, I asked Alexa to repeat it. Every lyric seemed to be intertwined with the emotions echoing inside me. The harmony paired with the words had me in a melodic trance. My favorite bar was …
Life is crazy, ain’t it. Look at all we have to go through, just trying to keep our spirit alive.
No matter what storms life throws our way, we possess the strength to keep our light shining.
Just like Nip said…
I love the effect music has over me.
Let me expound on this a little bit. There was a reason I didn’t use the term “secular" to describe rap music earlier, because for me …. Music has spiritual qualities. It enhances my religious relationship with El Shaddai. From the words to the hertz, each song signals a unique frequency calling my spirit closer. The right song, at the right time will shift my energy from hell to heaven. It’s becomes very much a therapeutic encounter for me. With this awareness I choose to pay close attention to what I’m called to listen to and when.
Specific seasons in my life require specific songs. I’m in constant transition pursuing the path of blind faith that solopreneurship called me to 5 years ago. It’s vital that I receive the correct guidance to keep me on track.
Nipsey makes an appearance when it’s time for me to turn my hustle up. Even though I’m embracing the slow burn lifestyle my girl
mentioned in her Newsletter …I still make sure I’m 100% dedicated to working towards my goals. (This includes resting.) When I’m in hustle and flow mode, I give work my all, but still take my time with it. What’s meant for me, wont miss me. This duality helps bring my dreams into reality.
All of my accomplishments thus far, have come from rich soil.
I got it out the mud babyyy!
Rich Soil — that is a mix of sand, clay, and various organic materials.
It takes a mixture of things to make something out of nothing. I 10/10 don’t recommend trying it off your strength alone. You need the right set of tools, like uplifting words, a supportive work environment , and a list of realistic actions. Which brings us back to the music!

What I admire about you is that you listen to the ebbs and flows of your life. You know when to turn the music off and turn it on, you know when to sit in silence and when you need a hug from a song. You know when to turn on the rap and get into hustle mode and when to turn on your gospel to bask in the presence of God. That is what you call being in tune with self. Yes friend! 🤎 it’s giving Ecclesiastes 3 (“There is a time for everything…”) 🙏🏾
